Saengerchor Boston is a mixed-voice German-American chorus whose members come from various communities throughout Massachusetts. We meet to practice German songs once a week, (Tuesdays at 7:30PM til 9:00PM) for seasonal dinner dance shows we produce at the Boylston-Schul-Verein (BSV) the German-American Club, on 8 County Street, Walpole, MA.
We also sing at the BSV’s Sommerfest and Oktoberfest, where we sing at the opening ceremonies each day at 1:00PM, and at the “Deutsches Altenheim” (a German nursing home and assisted living center) in early December. All proceeds from our concerts are rolled back into the next performances.
On December 20, 2015 was our Weihnachtskonzert (Christmas Concert) featuring traditional German Christmas songs and carols from different regions and eras. Above is a picture of the chorus shortly before our performance.
We are currently led by Choir Director Mary Louise Schector. There are no auditions and you do not need to be able to read music or speak German. You just need to be able to carry a reasonable tune and the patience to know that one day you will learn enough to contribute to the chorus while learning a great deal about the German culture.
Afterwards we retire to the BSV’s “Ratskeller” for “Gemütlichkeit,” a state of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer, helped by a fine collection of German wines and beers.
